Rango why pg

My husband said it was better than most animated movies, it's rare he actually watches one and this one held his interest. I was half paying attention, doing other things but what I saw seemed like a good movie with overall a good message. Animation was fantastic.

I did see a few things people mentioned that were of concern to them, and was on the lookout for those, but nothing stood out to me as significant and my kids are mature enough to see past the trivial stuff and benefit from the moral of the story. Parent of a 12 and year-old Written by karenh11 April 22, There is a lot of cartoon violence, and frightening scenes that younger kids might find too scary.

The characters are strange in both appearance and behavior, but they remain largely undeveloped, and there are overly-caricatured "redneck hillbilly" stereotypes that some may find offensive. The plotline sounded like it might be a cute movie, but it was frankly painful to sit through. The little bit of personal growth that Rango goes through isn't enough to make this worth the time to watch it.

Adult Written by biovox14 January 1, One of my favorites Such a good movie, though a bit dark for the younger kids. Lots of interesting themes, and a greatly unique movie. Had useful details. Adult Written by Gxgginc December 19, It is more violent, and disturbing than most other movies of its kind.

However, it is also very enjoyable. The western-style setting and the bleak plot make for a very interesting viewing experience. Johnny Depp as the main voice only makes the film that much better, and the animation is extremely detailed.

Unfortunately, this is a flick best enjoyed by older viewers, or at least, older kids. Many of the characters are disturbing and imply past violence. There is also a lot of death, whether implied or shown, and the ending is not very 'happy'. Which is why, I would highly recommend this movie, just not to children. Adult Written by AngryParent67 April 18, Parent Written by Momtwosons October 27, It was pretty funny at first, but I didn't like the headless top-naked Barbie - that didn't have to be in there like that but it's minor.

When the female protagonist has 2 frozen moments of staring into space an unexplained medical condition , Rango takes the opportunity to put his arm around her. She's surprised but slightly pleased. Next time, he kisses her! Cute on the one hand because he's too shy to do that in normal life but actually, it's not appropriate to take advantage of someone when they're in a "coma!

I like to understand every word in movies, and I couldn't catch all the speakers' accents but I don't think I missed much. My yr old watched it about 4 years ago and was pretty confused; liked it better this time. March 5, This movie is Great! Adult Written by Jonathan S. According to Titus, the only other animated film to match 'Rango' was ' Dalmatians,' whose cruel character, Cruella De Vil, was a total chain-smoker also 60 times over.

The article also cites Stanton Glantz, director of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at the University of California San Francisco saying "A lot of kids are going to start smoking because of this movie.

That just seems patently ridiculous to me. I honestly think kids are smarter than that. It's not like Rango himself was striding around the film with a cigarette in his mouth saying , "mmmmm, this tastes so good.

Bad guys chomped cigars. Rango Parent Guide Much like the furry critters in this movie that spend their time wading through sand in the quest for water, the script seems to be on an endless search for solid footing. Rango Parents' Guide This film pairs two different eras.

I love the link and the help it provides. Although each child is different, Common Sense provides a great starting point for many of us! Kristen mentioned the exact same link to me last night. However they do serve as a filter and if we could get smoking and tobacco product placement to jump a rating up to R, I suppose the film industry would think twice before keeping those images intact.

My older kid gets to watch commercial free preschool programming a few times per week. A relative brought it to a family gathering especially for her. But given the extremely addictive nature of nicotene, they should consider an NC 17 rating for smoking. As for my family: I preview everything.

I would definitely support laws to regulate advertising to minors, especially tweens and younger. Advertising that manipulates the self concept of young children is a multi-billion dollar industry.

Those smoking scenes in Rango can be seen as product placement. I believe as others, that parents need to be the final arbiter of what their children see in movies and on tv. I remember when my oldest was in kindergarten and a parent told me they allowed their 5 year-old to see the live-action Spiderman.

I can only hope that continues.
